The Lake Dillon Theatre Company Cabaret Series continues its popular First Sundays series with "Stories I Only Tell My Friends," featuring Lake Dillon Theatre Company member and local favorite Kelly Renoux.
Renoux returns to the stage in her one-night-only engagement on Sunday, July 6. Her one-woman show highlights her theatrical career spanning the past 15 years. Renoux said she created this cabaret for Summit County audiences because of her passion for live theater.
"I have had some amazing opportunities to play several inspiring, silly, serious and crazy roles over the years," she said. "I jumped on the chance to revisit some of these characters, especially in such an intimate setting. The cabaret series at Lake Dillon Theatre Company allows you to share these personal experiences directly with the audience, which is exhilarating and a bit scary at the same time."
"Stories I Only Tell My Friends" features songs from musicals in which Renoux has appeared locally, including "Brigadoon," "Tell Me on a Sunday," "The World Goes 'Round," "Urinetown," "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" and more. Renoux said she finds it hard to select just one song that she's most excited to perform.
"How can I pick?" she said. "I loved so many of these numbers that it truly is hard to pick just one, but I do have a couple of 'Always, Patsy Cline' numbers that I love. That show will always have a special place in my heart, and singing those songs feels like coming home."
Renoux said "Stories I Only Tell My Friends" includes stories and music selections for every type of audience member.
"The show is a bit of a narrative journey through my life and career in the theater with some juicy tidbits of what happens behind the scenes," she said. "There is definitely something for everyone, including some traditional pieces from classics like 'Kiss Me Kate' to James Bond theme songs and more.
"You'll hear about some terrible stage kisses, production secrets, cringe-worthy co-stars and costume challenges. Expect to laugh a lot, maybe tear up a little, but mainly to sit back and enjoy some fantastic music and stories."
"Stories I Only Tell My Friends" features Renoux with music direction and accompaniment by local talent and artist in residence with Summit Music & Arts Len Rhodes.
"Another great reason to check out the show is to witness the amazing talent of musical director Len Rhodes," Renoux said. "He is amazing on the piano/keyboard and really fun to work with. People are in for a real treat."
