The Lake Dillon Theatre Company Cabaret Series continues its popular “First Sundays” series with “A Night at the Movies: Tales from the Gummy Bear Carpet,” featuring Ben Whitmore, Lake Dillon Theatre Company production manager. The theater will have two shows on Sunday, May 4, at 6 and 8:30 p.m.
“The First Sundays Cabaret Series celebrates cabaret artists,” said Chris Alleman, Lake Dillon’s producing artistic director. “In celebration of the Lake Dillon Theatre Company’s 20th Anniversary Season, we are presenting a unique, intimate concert the first Sunday of each month, showcasing some of the Lake Dillon Theatre Company’s favorite performers from the past, beloved Colorado artists and performers from across the country. Each concert explores personal themes through music and connects the artists’ stories and songs with our audiences.”
“A Night at the Movies: Tales from the Gummy Bear Carpet” is one wide-eyed kid’s memories of growing up in a movie theater. A night of songs that celebrate the silver screen, this one-night-only concert features some classic songs, such as “Make ’Em Laugh” (“Singin’ in the Rain,” 1952), passes through the ’60s with “Mrs. Robinson” (“The Graduate,” 1967) and even stops in a galaxy far, far away with some tunes about “Star Wars” (1977).
“‘A Night at the Movies: Tales from the Gummy Bear Carpet’ is a love song to the silver screen,” Whitmore said, describing his unique cabaret. “It’s about being caught up in the magic of the movies, the childlike wonder that comes with sitting in a darkened theater and the impact that experience has on us at all the different stages of our lives.”
The show stars Whitmore, with music direction, orchestration and accompaniment by Cameron Kinnear.
The Lake Dillon Theatre Company Cabaret Series offers exciting concert engagements throughout the year, celebrating the music of Broadway and beyond while introducing Summit County to local and New York-based artists in residence.
