The Lake Dillon Theatre Company presents “The World Goes Round,” a musical celebrating the legendary music of composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb and originally conceived by Scott Ellis, Susan Stroman and David Thompson.
Committed to presenting a diverse theater season of comedies, dramas and musicals, the Lake Dillon Theatre Company continues its 2013 theater season with this exciting, award-winning musical celebration. The Lake Dillon Theatre Company first produced Kander and Ebb’s “The World Goes Round” in spring 2003 and brings back this exciting musical extravaganza for audiences of all ages.
“Kander and Ebb make up one of the greatest American composing teams in Broadway history,” said Chris Alleman, Lake Dillon Theatre Company producing artistic director. “Their shows are an important part of the growth of the American musical art form. Plus, their musicals are incredibly entertaining.”
“The World Goes Round” marks the fifth Kander and Ebb musical that the Lake Dillon Theatre Company has produced in 10 years, having previously presented “The World Goes Round” in 2003, “Chicago” in 2007, “Cabaret” in 2008 and “Kiss of the Spider Woman” in 2012.
“Kiss of the Spider Woman” was honored with three 2012 True West Awards, including “Outstanding Direction of a Musical,” “Outstanding Actor in a Musical” and “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical” and is currently nominated for seven 2013 Colorado Theatre Guild Henry Awards, including “Best Musical.”
“The World Goes Round” highlights music from Kander and Ebb’s musical repertoire spanning six decades, including hits from their first musical, “Flora the Red Menace” (1965), which featured a young Liza Minnelli who won a “Best Actress in a Musical” Tony Award for her performance in the title role as the impressionable, American fashion designer flirting with Communist ideals during the Great Depression.
“The World Goes Round” also includes hits from their musicals “Cabaret” (1966), “The Happy Time” (1968), “Zorba” (1968), “Chicago” (1975), “Funny Lady” (1975), “Woman of the Year” (1981), “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (1992) and many more.
“This show has everything,” said director-choreographer Adam Estes, who returns to the Lake Dillon Theatre Company after directing and choreographing the 2009 musical “Respect: A Musical Journey.” “Hit songs, high-energy dance numbers, hilarious comedy songs, soaring ballads. … It’s one showstopper after another. It’s the perfect big Broadway musical revue!”
Triple threats Frank Sansone, Brittany Jeffery, Ashley Alana Kenney, Alex Kidder and Zachary Conner comprise “The World Goes Round” cast. The show is directed and choreographed by Estes, with music direction by Jonathan Cable, and has scenic and lighting design by Nick Kargel, costume design by Nikki Harrison, sound design by Isaac Mandel, properties design by Hannah-Elise Johnson and stage management by Emily Rolston.
