October 30, 2013
Name of business or product: JK Studio, fiber art and more.
Date business or product was launched: The business started in 1998 under the name JK Quilting. In 1999, we established our first Internet website and began selling quilting notions and fabric online. In 2006, we moved from Pennsylvania to beautiful Breckenridge. Our new Colorado High Country lifestyle inspired another evolution. We started to design and create Fiber Art You Can Wear and began selling our items at various local venues. In 2011, we revised our brand with a new business name, which better reflects who we are today and opened a fiber art studio in the Lincoln West Mall, Main Street, Breckenridge. JK Quilting is now JK Studio LLC.
What goods do you make here in Summit County? How much do they cost? As part of our Fiber Art You Can Wear line, we feature handmade, embellished fabric pins, barrettes and signature designed sweatshirts and vests. Our lightweight fabric pins are quite special and unique, unlike the heavy metal pin or brooch your grandmother wore. We use quilt and bead shop-quality fabric and materials, which in turn provides a more modern look to a traditional idea. There’s even a clever way to wear your pin as a necklace.
We also feature handmade fabric cards suitable for framing; handmade fabric coasters; paperweights and hand-quilted wall hangings that look great in any room. Prices for pins range from $15 to $40, cards start at $10, sweatshirts and vests are $35, coasters are $25 a pair, paperweights are $25 to $45, and wall hangings start at $125. We have the right gift for any occasion.
What’s great about making your products here? It’s truly the right environment, as we have the best backyard anyone could imagine. After years of looking for the right location for creating a working studio, we found the perfect spot. Located in the Lincoln West Mall, on the second floor, the view of the Tenmile Range is awesome. The lifestyle here is positive and allows one be creative. That enthusiasm is contagious to all who visit us.
What’s new with your company or product? We’re always evolving, and there’s no shortage of ideas for new designs. This thought is demonstrated through some of the newest hand-quilted wall hangings. Although created using traditional methods, the art look is contemporary to modern.
