Music Scene: Local music and free beer in Breckenridge

Daily News staff reports
Fox Street will play a free show at The Barkley Ballroom in Frisco on Saturday, Jan. 25. Fox Street reeks of the roadhouses and West Texas honky-tonks of the Deep South that inspired their signature sound. The band is a roller coaster of roadhouse blues interwoven with super-sized helpings of funk with elements of rock, soul and jazz. No one really has any idea from where front man Jonathan “Skippy” Huvard channels his soulful, whiskey-soaked vocals and frenetic stage presence, but the result is a blistering powerhouse of sound. The free show starts at 10 p.m. Visit www.barkleyballroom.com.

Smoky musical sauce at Motherloaded

Dave Gerard will play an all-ages show in Breckenridge at The Motherloaded Tavern on Sunday, Jan. 26, with local musician Moose. Gerard said that if her music were a tangible item, it would be “a deep, dark sauce with smoky paprika — intense, flavorful, but with the ability to be smooth.” The duo never plays with a set list and is always writing new originals and adding tasty covers to the mix. This tour features more brand-new tunes, Gerard said. The music runs from 6 to 9 p.m., and there’s no cover. For more information, visit http://www.gerardtruffle.com.

Double-header of funk in Breck

Kung Fu and Dopapod will take over three20south in Breckenridge on Thursday, Jan. 30.
