‘Tapestry of Light’ brings Celtic Christmas to Dillon with choral concert

Daily News staff report

Celebrate the joy and hope of the holiday season with the Lord of the Mountains Sanctuary Choir as it performs the cantata "'Tapestry of Light,' A Celtic Christmas Celebration." Summit Music and Arts presents this free choral concert as part of its 2013-14 concert series on Sunday, Dec. 15, at Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church in Dillon.

Len Rhodes, Lord of the Mountains music director and organist and Summit Music and Arts artistic director and artist in residence, will direct the choir from the piano.

"Tapestry of Light" is a cantata springing from the rich heritage of Celtic Christmas music, overflowing with hope and light. From seasonal songs that lift the spirits to quiet carols of reflection and peace, this work is filled with music of grace. Familiar tunes and thoughtful narration underscore the uplifting theme of the work, which contains recognizable melodies such as "I Saw Three Ships," "Sussex Carol," "Scarborough Fair," "Greensleeves" and "Londonderry Air."

Incorporating scripture readings and the lighting of candles, this choral tapestry richly tells the Christmas story. Other seasonal choral music will also be included in the program. This is the third year that the Lord of the Mountains Sanctuary Choir has presented this particular program, and it has quickly become a Summit County favorite.

The Summit Music and Arts Concert Series, in collaboration with The Dercum Center for Arts and Humanities, also presents "A Baroque Holiday Concert" on Friday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. at Lord of the Mountains Lutheran Church. This unique holiday event will feature Chas Wetherbee, violin; Len Rhodes, harpsichord and organ; Janet Harriman, harp; Nick Keelan, sackbuts; and Paul Nagen, flute.
