Breck closes streets for trick-or-treating
On Thursday, the town of Breckenridge will be closing streets in several neighborhoods to accommodate safe and enjoyable trick-or-treating. In the Wellington neighborhood, Wolff Lyon Road and Bridge Street will be closed from 4 to 8 p.m. at the request of the Wellington Neighborhood Association. In the Historic District of Breckenridge, High Street and Harris Street, along with related side streets, will be closed from 4-8 p.m. New this year, Adams Avenue and High and Harris streets south of Adams Avenue will remain open.
Halloween closures in the Historic District of Breckenridge date back more than 30 years, and a recent survey of residents affirmed the strong support for this small-town tradition.
These neighborhoods see more than of 500 trick-or-treaters per home, which can be burdensome, so the town of Breckenridge has arranged for candy drop-off spots at Upper Blue Elementary, Breckenridge Elementary and the Breckenridge Police Department, located at 150 Valley Brook St. Please drop off any donated candy at these locations by 4 p.m. Monday. Candy will be distributed to residents of the Wellington neighborhood and the High Street/Harris Street neighborhood on a first-come, first-served basis at the Breckenridge Police Station between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and by Breckenridge Police Officers stationed at the street closures on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
