The Summit County Library hosted its Library Appreciation Awards dinner on Friday, March 6, at the South Branch Library. Staff members from the three branches, Summit County Library Board, Friends of the Library and the Summit County Library Foundation attended. Among the awards presented were the Volunteer of the Year and Van Woodford Service Award.

Five volunteers who served the library over the past year were recognized for their dedication and time. Completing their terms on the library board were Dan Taylor, Paul Finkel and Marsha Cooper. Paul Olson, board president, acknowledged their philanthropic commitment to all library projects and determination to bring new and exciting programs to the branches.

SERVICE AWARDS

The Trustees of the Summit County Library honored Joyce Timson as the 2015 Volunteer of the Year. Timson served as a volunteer at the South Branch helping to pack up books and materials at the Airport Road site and joined the staff to unpack and shelve books at the new location on South Harris Street.

“Her countless hours of service during the move and on-site help have made a difference at the South Branch Library,” said Joyce Dierauer, executive director of the library, during the presentation of the award.

In addition to this year’s recipients, local residents who have been honored as Library Volunteers of the Year include Beverley McArthur, Kay Bullington, Richard Hale, Brett Teatro, Becky Morgan, Sue Paluska, Kristina Nethaway, Mary Kidd, Eileen Finkel, Shirley Beaty and Brian Edney.

The trustees honored Mary Lynne Kneller with the 2015 Van Woodford Service Award. Kneller spent her free time writing grants for the capital campaign committee and helping with fundraising for the library foundation.

“Mary Lynne Kneller was instrumental in writing grants toward the more than $2 million raised for the Breckenridge Grand Vacations Community Center and Summit County South Branch Library renovation project,” Dierauer said.

Van Woodford award recipients from previous years include Janet Good, Susan Donaldson, Maggie Cox, Carolyn Wiseman, Cass Dombrowski, Joyce Dierauer, Ron and Kathy Schuman, Randall McKinnon and Ken Gray.

OTHERS RECOGNIZED

Recognized for their patience and hard work during the completion of and transition to the South Branch Library’s new location were Scott Vargo, Summit County assistant manager of community services and county administration; Dale Stein, town of Breckenridge assistant town engineer; and Dierauer.

The library staff, foundation and board presidents acknowledged the hard work the three dedicated to making the transition successful and to opening the library doors in a timely and efficient manner.

The library appreciates all of the volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to making the place a welcoming and enriching environment for both residents and visitors.
