On Friday, Aug. 26, the musical comedy, “First Date” opens at the Lake Dillon Theatre Company. The scene is a busy New York restaurant, where blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial dater Casey. A casual drink quickly turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner when other restaurant patrons transform into the couple’s inner critics.

A “First Date” is known to create an abundance of emotions. The pressure to deliver a good first impression leaves feelings of nervousness and insecurity. What should I wear? What should I say? Now add blind date to the mix and the emotional roller coaster becomes even more extreme.

“If you have ever been on a first date, then you already know what this musical is about,” said actor Nicholas Park in a statement, who plays multiple personalities throughout the show. “It chronicles the first encounter of Casey and Aaron and all that that first meeting entails. The challenges of navigating awkward territory, the fear of saying the wrong thing, the adrenaline and excitement when you really connect on something, and that ultimate moment where you have to decide if this was just a fun outing or if it could be something more. Take all of that, throw in some crazy side characters, a million costumes, and some catchy tunes — and that is first date.”

FINDING THE ONE

This musical takes us on the emotional journey of Aaron and Casey’s first date. Five cast members play up to 20 different characters, and we meet the many voices inside their head. Supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents sign and dance them through icebreakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines.

Actor Nicholas Park plays multiple characters through the show, but his main character is the waiter in the restaurant.

“I’m still exploring the many ways in which the waiter navigates this show, but Nick Sugar, the director, and I both agreed that we wanted the waiter to come off as a bit of a Cupid character,” said Park in a statement. “The restaurant is his domain, and, when nervous young lovers come in looking for that special connection, the waiter does everything he can to make sure all the pieces fall into place. He is a very light-hearted warrior for love and a toneof fun to play.”

“First Date” runs from Aug. 26 to Sept. 18 and will be performed at the Lake Dillon Theatre Company’s new interim theater at the Outlets at Silverthorne, Green Village.

“I am in love with my fellow actors, and, as we near opening night, we are just becoming more and more comfortable with the material and each other,” Park said. “By the time we have an audience, this show will be a beast. Come ready to laugh, bounce along, and sometimes even feel the feelings.”

The Lake Dillon Theatre Company has partnered with the Bakers Brewery in Silverthorne to host “Free Beer Fridays.” Enjoy free Bakers Brewery beers before the show on Sept. 2 and Sept. 16.
