Multi-specialty medical clinic opens in Frisco

When the Frisco Specialty Clinic opens Monday, Aug. 18, it will be the first place in Summit County to offer preventive breast cancer imaging in 3D.

Similar to a CT scan, 3D mammography takes images of the breasts in slices, giving radiologists more information in hopes of detecting and treating cancer early.

“One of the things we’ve found is that breast cancer tends to be more aggressive in younger women,” said Dr. Janice Ugale, radiologist and breast imaging specialist at Shaw Regional Cancer Center. “When you look at 40- to 50-year-old women, they’re in the prime of their lives. They have jobs, children, and it’s a big impact if they’re diagnosed too late.”

She recommends that women follow the American Cancer Society guidelines that women start annual mammograms at age 40.

Besides the breast cancer center, the speciality clinic at 323 Main St. also will offer cardiology, internal medicine and endocrinology services.

The clinic is a new campus of the nonprofit Vail Valley Medical Center. For more information, visit or call (970) 668-8970.

After serving Summit County residents for almost 15 years, Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Edwards is bringing its clinicians and technology to the Shaw Breast Center & Cancer Clinic in Frisco. Shaw’s lead oncologist, Dr. Alec Urquhart, will be on hand for convenient treatment and consultations and the center is staffed by breast experts and radiologists. Call (970) 668-6400 to schedule appointments.

Dr. Jerry Greenberg and Dr. Nelson Prager recently relocated to the mountains full time after working together in Denver for nearly 30 years. Greenberg specializes in interventional cardiology, and Prager specializes in cardiac electrophysiology, heart rhythm disturbances and coronary artery disease. Call (970) 668-6402 to schedule appointments.

Dr. Dennis Lipton, an internal medicine specialist, moved to Colorado from North Carolina in 2013. He is trained in primary care and disease prevention and helps ensure patients receive the proper screenings and immunizations. Lipton offers annual wellness visits, which all Medicare patients and most people with health insurance receive with no co-pay. Call (970) 668-6403 to schedule appointments.

Dr. Monique Manganelli is an endocrinologist specializing in thyroid disease, diabetes, menopause, adrenal disorders, osteoporosis, obesity management and pituitary disease. Call (970) 668-6404 to schedule appointments.
