What goods do you make here in Summit County? We make soy candles. Our candles are made with only 100 percent U.S.-grown soybeans. The soybeans are processed into wax in the U.S. There are no petroleum products in our candles like there are in regular paraffin candles. We use only pure essential oils to scent our candles. We do not use any chemical fragrances. The essential oils are also processed in the U.S. Even the containers our candles come in are made in the U.S. and are recyclable.
It is important to us to be making a product locally from natural, recyclable, renewable resources. We make our candles by hand in Breckenridge. Each candle is individually poured by us. We even make our own labels. Then we personally deliver them to shops and businesses.
How much do they cost? Our candles range in price from $3 to $24. We sell the candles both retail and wholesale. Our candles can be found at locally owned shops and businesses in Breckenridge, Dillon and Frisco. In the summers, you can find us at our booth at the Dillon and Breckenridge farmers’ markets. We also make custom candles for events like weddings and bridal showers. We offer discounts for wholesale orders and larger orders.
What’s great about making your products here? The community has been incredibly supportive of our business. I cannot thank all of the people and businesses that have helped us enough. Ole Man Berkins bookstore in Breckenridge was the first to carry our candles. That was where we made our first sale — an exciting moment for anyone trying to start their own business. Thanks, Justin! Auth Chiropractic was the first health and wellness practitioner to use our candles in their treatment rooms. They have been a great source of support and encouragement for us. Thanks, Fiona and Dr. Auth! Our business would not make it if we didn’t live in a community that helps and supports each other.
What’s new with your company or product? We have a larger selection of sizes and scents this year. We also now offer our candles for private labeling. This lets other businesses carry our wonderful candles but choose their own custom scent and label.
Why do you think it’s important for people in Summit County to buy locally made goods? Buying locally keeps our community strong and unique and helps it to thrive. In addition to the support we have from local shoppers, many visitors now seek out locally made products. This is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses and products. Shops that sell our candles like Marigolds and Wandering Daisy have told us that people come in wanting to buy only things that are made locally.
How can people find out more about your products? Please visit our website, breckenridge candlecabin.com, to find out more about our products, to contact us or to place an order. Contact any of the local businesses that carry our candles, or visit us at the farmers’ markets. Buy local!
