Silverthorne launches community engagement website

The town of Silverthorne on Tuesday, Feb. 4, announced the launch of Engage Silverthorne, a new comprehensive website where citizens can communicate and collaborate with local officials and residents about the future of the community.

The goal is to utilize the Internet and social media to provide residents with another forum, besides the traditional town hall meeting, to participate in the town’s planning decisions, according to a town news release.

This year, Silverthorne will use the site as officials update the town’s comprehensive plan and its parks, trails and open space master plan.

Ideas and feedback also will be solicited this year on important topics affecting the community, including housing, parks, transportation, signage and redevelopment of the town core.

“Engage Silverthorne is launching at a great time, as we are about to embark on an update of the town’s comprehensive plan, and we know that not everyone can attend public meetings in person to provide feedback,” said interim town manager Ryan Hyland in the release. “This comprehensive plan update will determine the future look and feel of Silverthorne’s commercial areas, so it’s important that we receive as much community feedback as possible.”

Engage Silverthorne also will give contributors a chance to share new ideas, second others’ ideas, expand upon existing ideas and give feedback about initiatives to community leaders on a variety of topics online at anytime and from anywhere.

The discussion will start with a question about whether the town should increase or restrict the size and quantity of signage for local businesses, the release stated.

In order to participate in the online discussions, residents will be asked to create an account, using an email address and password only.

Once an account is active, residents will be able to provide comments, ideas, feedback and suggestions on a variety of issues.

Town officials and staff from all departments will be available to respond to citizen comments and questions, the release stated. Prizes also will be awarded to the most active citizens on the site.

Residents may register by visiting www.engagesilverthorne.com.
