The flashing lights of the arcade at Downstairs at Eric’s in Breckenridge don’t just attract kids, owner Eric Mamula says. Adults also love the allure of the classic games.
Mamula opened his restaurant in 1989, and back then it was more of a bar scene, he said, pool table included. Over the years, Breckenridge became more family oriented, and so did he.
“It’s an important part of the Breck brand, the family thing; it’s just another aspect of what the guest is looking for,” he said.
The Gogobot travelers’ awards recognize the best destinations, restaurants, hotels and attractions annually, according to the site’s users. Award rankings are determined by the number of reviews a location receives. The site, which recently overtook Travelocity as one of the largest providers of travel reviews online, lets users categorize their travel style with options such as LGBT traveler, budget-friendly, family and more.
Also in Breckenridge, Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant came in at 17 for Best Cheap Eats, and Windy City Pizza ranked No. 16 in Most Loved Restaurants.
In a prepared statement, Gogobot CEO and co-founder Travis Katz said, “Food is central to the way we connect with a place. Whether it’s to grab a slice of pizza or to indulge in a sumptuous meal, millions of people trust Gogobot to help them discover the best a place has to offer, based on their own unique tastes and interests. These awards celebrate their best discoveries.”
The site features more than 630,000 total reviews. The places trending among those reviews — the ones with the most traffic, the most comments — top the awards list.
On the Gogobot site for Eric’s, 98 percent of family travelers said they liked the restaurant. Traveler Dorothy H. left a recent review of Eric’s, saying, “A great place for the family to eat. Good food, reasonable prices and casual friendly atmosphere.”
Travelers can use Gogobot to share insider tips and get advice from people who travel like they do on. Users can receive personalized list of recommendations based on their Twitter or Facebook accounts. The site partners with Expedia, Homeaway, Booking.com, Kayak, Priceline and OpenTable.
In October, Eric’s took over the old T-shirt shop inside and started adding new arcade games, including basketball and Skee-Ball.
“It made the game room more user friendly,” he said. “The danger is always, we don’t want to be Chuck E. Cheese’s. It’s a fine line to be a local sports bar that’s family friendly with a game room.”
