40 oz to Freedom plays hockey tourney apres party in Silverthorne

The Silverthorne Pavilion will host 40 oz to Freedom, a Sublime tribute band, for this year’s Pabst Blue Ribbon Pond Hockey Tournament après party.

“This is the fifth year that the tournament has come to town and the second year that we have hosted an après party,” said Blair McGary, pavilion and marketing coordinator. “Last year, we had a couple of local bands on hand, and we are excited to continue to grow this event to include larger, nationally touring acts and hopefully get our local community out enjoying the event.”

While 40 oz to Freedom is labeled a Sublime tribute band, it has been described as much more. The band is known for its improvisational jams that are seamlessly intertwined within the lyrics of the songs. These are talented musicians who find their influence from a diverse background of hip-hop, ska and punk rock.

“We do Sublime with a twist,” lead singer Dane Scott said. “We play a lot of the specific guitar solos and bass lines the same, but we also like to improvise on top and add our own arrangements of some songs.”

Colorado Pond Hockey Tournament founder David Janowiec said that as the tournament enters its fifth year, the organizers have worked toward improving the weekend experience for players and the town.

“One recent addition is the tournament’s après ice party at the Silverthorne Pavilion, which has been put together in partnership with the town of Silverthorne,” he said. “This provides a great opportunity for both tournament players and the public to enjoy a night of live music, contests, giveaways and more with players from all over the country before the tournament comes to a close on Sunday.

“We greatly appreciate all that the town has done for us and look forward to maintaining our partnership for many years to come.”
