Giving Briefs: Mountain Rural Philanthropy Days outreach meeting April 1

Zeke’s Healing Event

On Saturday, April 5, from 4-7 p.m., the Town of Frisco Adventure Park will be hosting “Zeke’s Healing Event,” a fundraiser and celebration for longtime local, Jon “Zeke” Zdechlik, and his family. The event will include tubing at the Frisco Adventure Park, skiing and snowshoeing at the Frisco Nordic Center, scenic sleigh rides with Two Below Zero, food from generous local restaurants, beer from the Backcountry Brewery, music from Leon Joseph Littlebird and a silent auction made possible by the kindness of local businesses. The Frisco Adventure Park and Nordic Center will close to the public during this time and extend their hours.

Zeke has been receiving treatment for small cell carcinoma, a form of lung cancer, since fall 2013. By April 5, Zeke will have completed the last of six rounds of chemotherapy and will likely have begun radiation treatments. And while Zeke has been reacting well to these therapies, the costs surrounding treatment have been significant. This event is intended to bring the community together to celebrate Zeke and his strong and courageous spirit and to reduce the financial pressures on the Zdechlik family so Zeke can focus on healing.

Tickets are $30 per adult or $20 for juniors 18 and younger, and will include food, one drink ticket (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), tubing, Nordic skiing, scenic sleigh rides, snowshoeing and a silent auction. Silent auction items will include ski area season passes, gift certificates to local shops and restaurants and much more. Tickets are available at www.zekez.eventbrite.com or by calling (970) 668-5384, and may also be purchased at the door day of the event. To donate silent auction items or sponsor other components of the event, please email Marcia Spenst atmarciaspenst@gmail.com or call (720) 258-5871. Donations can be made online through www.zekez.eventbrite.com or may also be made at Wells Fargo Bank to the “Jon Zdechlik Benefit Fund.” To volunteer for this event, please email Kelly Lloyd at kellyslloyd@gmail.comor call (970) 389-2262.

Mountain Rural Philanthropy Days

Join the Community Resource Center and the Anschutz Family Foundation on Tuesday, April 1, from 1-3 p.m. at Room 143 of the Colorado Mountain College Breckenridge campus (107 Denison Placer Road) for an outreach meeting to learn about the June 2015 Mountain Rural Philanthropy Days conference, which serves Eagle, Garfield, Lake, Pitkin and Summit counties. Rural Philanthropy Days (RPD) is a program that brings grantmakers into Colorado’s rural areas to discuss community needs with grantseekers and local leaders. RPD began in the early 1990s, when it was discovered that only 3 percent of the funds granted by Colorado private foundations were awarded outside the Front Range. Rural Philanthropy Days became the bridge to connect the foundations with the rural nonprofits and provide a marketplace for networking, building relationships and educating one another about regional needs and services. The conference revisits the mountain region once every four years. Please visit www.mountainrpd.org for more information on the event. If you have questions, contact Leah Rausch, RPD Program Associate, at rausch@crcamerica.org or 303.623.1540 x 170.
