In January, Dr. Peter Janes, M.D., a surgeon with Vail-Summit Orthopaedics, received special recognition when he was named among the “101 Physician Leaders to Know in the Ambulatory Surgery Center Industry” by Becker’s Healthcare.
Janes, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Peak One Surgery Center in Frisco, was nominated for the award by officials at Pinnacle III Solutions, the management company for Peak One Surgery Center.
On Wednesday, April 9, Scott Thomas, a principal at Pinnacle III, said Janes was an obvious candidate for the recognition given his years of dedication to his colleagues, staff, the Summit County community and his patients both here and abroad.
“Dr. Janes and his wife spend a good amount of their time volunteering for medical missions in Africa, and also traveled to Haiti in the wake of the (2010) earthquake,” Thomas said. “Aside from being an excellent orthopedic surgeon, he gives a lot back to the community and is an excellent leader among his colleagues and staff at the Surgery Center.”
Among examples of Janes’ dedication to the community was his vision for the Peak One Surgery Center during the early 2000s, Thomas said, which ultimately came to fruition in 2005 through a joint venture with Centura Health. That same year, Centura Health opened its first hospital in Summit County with St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Frisco.
But Janes didn’t stop there, Thomas said, and in 2010 he collaborated with the Summit Community Care Clinic in launching Community Surgery Day to provide free surgeries to local residents in need. In October 2013, the fourth year of the event, Janes and a team of about 50 volunteers performed 18 surgeries for local patients without health insurance or who otherwise couldn’t afford the medical expenses.
“Janes was the one with the vision and the driving force behind Peak One,” Thomas said. The Community Surgery Day, “is a tremendous volunteer effort and has grown, in a very short period of time, into a very beneficial service to the community.”
In addition to “Becker’s ASC Review,” Becker’s Healthcare also publishes “Becker’s Quality & Infection Control,” “Becker’s Spine Review” and “Becker’s Hospital Review.” The four trade publications have a combined print readership of about 58,000 nationwide.
