What is your background?
Born and raised in Cleveland — Cleveland rocks! I’m an avid skier, one of six children. I’ve taught/coached skiing for a quarter of a century and I was born to ski!
What led you to become a mentor?
The fact that Mountain Mentors is a fantastic program and my desire to have a positive impact on the life of my young friend Matthew.
What do you enjoy most about being a mentor?
Spending time with my friend Matthew and the feeling of putting something back into this community that I love.
How does mentoring fit into your life?
It fits like a glove — 3 hours per weeks is a drop in the bucket of life to spend with my friend.
What is a favorite activity you have done as a mentor?
The top five activities that Matthew and I have done: cross-country skiing, tubing in Frisco, skiing at Copper, teaching Matthew to golf and going to the Rockies game together for Matthew’s birthday.
Do you have advice for someone who is considering become a mentor?
Don’t hesitate — start now — the rewards are greater than you can imagine!
What Matthew has to say about his mentor Jay:
“He’s a fun guy and does a lot of fun activities with me. He’s an awesome man with an awesome mustache. I like everything about him!”
