Volunteers read a Curious George book to young kids Wednesday, April 23, as part of Summit County’s Month of the Young Child events to promote early-childhood education.
For the event, called “One Book, One Summit,” volunteers read and gave out 1,000 copies of “Curious George Plants A Seed/Jorge el Curioso Siembra Una Semilla,” which fit with the month’s “Watch Us Grow” theme.
The county also held an awards and appreciation night Wednesday for local leaders and professionals involved in early child care and education at the Community and Senior Center in Frisco.
About 120 people were recognized at the event, which was funded by the county and grants.
The county is also displaying children’s artwork at the medical office building in Frisco until the end of April.
Other events extend into May with a presentation from the Colorado Children’s Campaign of state and county data on child wellbeing factors at the Community and Senior Center at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 15. Breakfast will be provided.
On Saturday, May 17, the community will hold its seventh annual Successful Child Conference. The keynote address will be “The Seeds of Success: The Amazing Brains of Young Bilinguals,” by Linda Espinosa.
