Arapahoe Basin Ski Area extends season through June 8 at least

Officials at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area this week announced they will extend the season for an additional weekend.

The ski area had originally set Sunday, June 1, as its closing day. It will now be closed during the week following June 1 but reopen Friday, June 6, through Sunday, June 8.

“The snow is good, really good,” ski area spokeswoman Adrienne Saia Isaac said Thursday. “Most of the time it doesn’t feel like May conditions out there. It feels more like February.”

Isaac said the 2 feet of snow that fell over the past weekend made resort managers confident they would be able to tack on at least one weekend. Further extensions may also be an option depending on the weather moving forward.

Significant snowfall over the weekend attracted enough guests Monday to fill all of A-Basin’s main parking lots, as well as its satellite lot between the ski area and Keystone Resort.

The ski area reported an additional 7 inches of snow overnight Wednesday.

“Surprise storms like today’s makes me think that maybe we’ll be able to go even further,” Isaac said.

The mountain currently has all of its inbound terrain open. The decision to open the gates to access the East Wall has been made daily by ski patrol based on conditions. It has been open intermittently throughout the last few weeks.

Uphill access for Alpine touring will continue during operating hours and at ski patrol’s discretion during off-hours.

UPDATES

Isaac suggested that guests check the A-Basin website for updates regarding uphill travel or the potential for the ski area to further extend its season.

If the season is extended further, operations would be limited to Fridays through Sundays.
