Join Arapahoe Basin for its largest party of the year on Sunday, May 25, with the 13th annual Festival of the Brewpubs at the base of the ski area from noon to 4 p.m.
Spend the day sampling beer from 12 breweries from Summit County and Colorado, including Pug Ryan’s Brewing Co., Dillon Dam Brewery, AC Golden Brewing Co., Avery Brewing Co., Odell Brewing Co., Oskar Blues Brewery, Wynkoop Brewing Co., Tivoli Brewing Co., Twisted Pine Brewery, Breckenridge Brewery, Left Hand Brewing Co. and Elevation Beer Co.
A $25 ticket gets you unlimited beer sampling and a commemorative mug; you can also purchase food tickets in $5 increments online prior to the event or on site at the festival. You must be at least 21 to purchase a mug. The event also features high-octane Rocky Mountain dance-grass from WhiteWater Ramble from 1 to 4 p.m.
To discourage drinking and driving, the free Summit Stage bus will run from Keystone to A-Basin on Saturdays and Sundays through Sunday, May 25. The free bus will leave River Run in Keystone at 55 minutes past the hour until 4:55 p.m. The last bus will leave A-Basin at 5:10 p.m. to go back to Keystone, where it connects to all other towns in Summit County. Mount Evans now open to Summit Lake
The Colorado Department of Transportation opened the Mount Evans road on Friday, May 23, despite heavy snow in the past several weeks. Adverse weather has hindered efforts made by CDOT crews to clear the road, despite long hours and several weeks of work. The road is open only as far as Summit Lake.
Crews hope to have the rest of the 14-mile stretch of road open in the next week. Additional snowfall hit the road last night and crews have been fighting winter weather in an effort to reach the top.

Maroon Bells Scenic Area opens for summer season
The Maroon Valley Scenic Area road opened on Thursday, May 22. Recreation facilities will be limited until mid-June. Potable water is not available at this time, so visitors are encouraged to bring their own water. Silver Bell campground is also open and is currently snow-free.
Any recreation and trail use in and around the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness will involve some over-snow travel. Visitors are encouraged to stay on designated trails to minimize resource impacts. Inherent risks related to winter conditions still exist in the area.

Feast! Vail culinary festival continues this weekend
Feast! Vail continues this weekend with a variety of culinary “sides” taking place throughout a variety of Vail and Lionshead restaurants. From 11 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, May 25, guests have the opportunity to choose one of four custom seminars during each time period, giving each guest a hands-on experience from experts in the field.
The culinary “sides” range from a Summer Sippers with masters of the vine, Nick Noesen and Damon Ornowski at Up the Creek, Vail and Sushi Making & Butchery at Home with guest chef-owner, TAG, Troy Guard at The Arrabelle at Vail Square, Lionshead, to the Pizza & Beer Pairing with Stella Artois at Blue Moose.
New this year to the Feast! Vail portfolio is the Colorado Craft Brews & Spirits Tasting taking place from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Sebastian in Vail. This event will showcase Colorado’s finest breweries and distilleries. Hosted in the heart of Vail, guests will have the opportunity to sample numerous beers and spirits that are all homegrown in the state of Colorado. Tickets are available online and are $50 per person. Space is limited.

Entries still accepted for Father’s Day barbecue contest
Once again this year, the Frisco Colorado BBQ Challenge is sponsoring a contest to find the dad most deserving of a chance to kick back during the 21st annual event and enjoy someone else’s barbecue. The 2014 BBQ Challenge leads up to Father’s Day each year, and this year’s dates are Thursday, June 12, for the kickoff concert and Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14, for the BBQ Challenge.
To enter the BBQ Challenge’s Father’s Day contest, offspring, young or old, must submit a short essay detailing why their dad is worthy of a free barbecue-filled weekend in Frisco. Interested participants may enter the contest on the Colorado BBQ Challenge Facebook page by clicking on the #1Dad icon or by going to www.friscobbq.com to submit a short essay about why their dad most deserves a weekend at the Frisco BBQ Challenge.
The winner will receive lodging for two nights, Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14, in a two-bedroom condo courtesy of Mountain Managers, $100 worth of Hogbacks (official currency of the Colorado BBQ Challenge) and two tickets to Friday night’s Rub It, Smoke It, Sip It Whiskey Tour, courtesy of the Breckenridge Distillery. “We had to find a box of tissues last year when we read all of the essays,” said Cristi Eckert, Frisco/Copper Information Center Manager. “It was hard to make a decision because there are so many dads out there who are ‘everyday superheroes’ to their families. It was incredibly inspiring to read stories of dads who really step up and quietly make a difference in their families’ lives day in and out. I’m looking forward to reading all those great entries again this year.”

3,000 pounds of bacon come to Keystone for festival
Keystone’s fourth-annual Blue Ribbon Bacon Tour returns to River Run Village on Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, with 3,000 pounds of bacon in just about every shape, size and variety from bacon ice cream to bacon s’mores to bacon drinks along with samples of bacon strips.
In addition to bacon tastings, there will be beer, Bloody Mary — with bacon, of course — bacon seminars and free music from Hell’s Belles, Big Onions and Terrance Simien & The Zydeco, among others. Plus, you can feel good about eating all of that bacon because the organizers of the event, The Keystone Neighbourhood Company, donate a portion of the proceeds to The Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, a local nonprofit that protects our National Forest land.
