Summit County charity briefs: Crawfish boil supports National Repertory Orchestra

Cajun Crawfish Boil

The Climax Molybdenum Co. presents a “Cajun Crawfish Boil” to benefit the National Repertory Orchestra. The event features fixin’s provided by the Lost Cajun Restaurant, free beer from the Broken Compass Brewery, free drinks from Breckenridge Distillery, wine provided by the Gold Pan Saloon, live Cajun music with the Bon Tee Cajun Band and shuttle service from downtown Breckenridge provided by the Adventure Co. The event will kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at the Mountain HOPE Foundation Barn, 86 Gold Hill Road in Breckenridge (above DnR Kennels). Run. Fun. Run.

The Carriage House will host the 3rd Annual Run.Fun.Run on Aug. 18 at Carter Park in Breckenridge. The race will begin at 9 a.m., pre-registration can be completed at www.active.com. Tickets are $25 for kids in advance, $30 day of and $30 for adults pre-registered, $35 day of. If you are interested in volunteering or sponsoring the event, contact Martha (970) 453-6423.

Father’s Day breakfast

Boy Scout Troop 188 Father’s Day all-you-can eat breakfast at the Summit County Elks’s Lodge on Sunday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. Advance-purchased tickets for adults are $10, $12 at the door. Summit Choral Society rehearsals

Rehearsals for the summer session of Summit Choral Society will begin on Monday, June 2, and continue each Monday until the concerts on Aug. 18 and 19. Rehearsals are held at Christ Lutheran Church, Farmers Corner 7-9 p.m. Director is Jill Schroeder-Dorn. Rehearsals begin with vocal exercises, then proceed with music we are preparing for the concerts. If you have questions, please call (970) 262-2235.

Breckenridge Alpine Garden Program

On May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a work session followed by lunch at Kenosha Steakhouse at about noon to welcome new members. This is an ongoing club project, begun in 2003. Located on the Blue River, the goal is to make the Breckenridge Alpine Garden into a town showplace garden. Members also tend the “Plant Select” Demonstration Garden which was established in 2003 and was the initial area adopted by the club. Just bring some favorite tools and gloves to participate. P.E.O Chapter IB Scholarship Applications Available

The Dillon Chapter of P.E.O. is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a woman either in her last two years of college, pursuing a post-graduate degree or enrolled in her final year of a vocational/technical program. Applicants must be Summit County residents or graduates of Summit School District and must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, commitment to goals and community involvement. P.E.O. provides educational opportunities for women by offering scholarships, grants, awards and loans.

Summit County Cares May Food Drive

The Summit County Cares Food Drive is going on during the month of May. Donate nonperishable items at the donation bins at City Market, Natural Grocers and the Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne post offices. The Summit County Cares food drive benefits the local food banks. Books and bikes donations

Frisco Fun Club is collecting used children’s bikes and books to use for summer day camp for children ages 5-12. Please bring gently used and functioning items to the Frisco Day Lodge between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.; Monday-Friday, May 5-30.
