The Summit County Sheriff’s Office reported this week one of its patrol deputies stumbled upon an alleged assault on Swan Mountain Road east of Sapphire Point.
The alleged attack took place sometime before 3 a.m. Tuesday, June 17. A patrol deputy in the area discovered an 18-year-old man staggering along Swan Mountain Road.
The victim was covered in blood and had sustained several severe lacerations to his face, according to a sheriff’s office release.
The victim was first transported to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Frisco, then was airlifted to St. Anthony Hospital in Denver due to the severity of his injuries, the release stated.
He immediately underwent surgery upon his arrival at St. Anthony’s in Denver.
During an initial interview with patrol deputies, the victim said he was attacked in the woods. The victim said he knew at least one of his alleged attackers.
Investigators had to wait until after the victim’s surgery in Denver before further information could be obtained, the release stated.
The victim, who resides out of state, remains at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver in stable condition.
The names of the victim and the suspects are being withheld pending an ongoing investigation, the release stated.
