Summit County nonprofit news: Amy Purdy to host Sunset Dancing in Dillon

Amy Purdy to host Sunset Dancing

Come to the Dillon Ampitheater at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, for an evening of dancing with Amy Purdy. Admission is free but donations are accepted for the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, which is a nonprofit that promotes stewardship of the White River National Forest in Summit County. The evening will be hosted by Amy Purdy, U.S. Paralympic snowboarder and Dancing With the Stars veteran. First hour is instruction. Open dancing begins at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the town of Dillon, Summit Swing and Office Max. Concessions will include snacks and beverages.

Summit Historical Society needs volunteers

The Summit Historical Society, a volunteer organization, needs people to help with the many activities scheduled for the summer months. Do you like talking to visitors about Summit County’s exciting history? Become a trained docent leading tours through the Schoolhouse Museum on LaBonte Street in Dillon. Are you handy with tools and a paint brush? Historic sites always need minor repairs. Do you like to prepare desserts? Become part of the group providing goodies for the Monday-evening “Pastry and the Past” series of talks held at the Dillon Community Church. Do you like working with historical artifacts, photographs and maps? The society maintains an extensive archive staffed by volunteers. Extra hands are always welcome. Do you like helping with friendly social events? The society needs helpers for the Ice Cream Social in Dillon on July 19.

There are many other ways to help, such as setting up and taking down the tent at the Dillon Farmers Market on Fridays. Anyone who wants to become more involved in the society by serving on a committee or becoming board members is also welcome. Run to benefit Carriage House

The Carriage House will host the third annual Run.Fun.Run on Aug. 18 at Carter Park in Breckenridge. The race will begin at 9 a.m., pregistration can be completed at www.active.com. Tickets are $25 for kids in advance, $30 day of, and $30 for adults preregistered, $35 day of. If you are interested in volunteering, or sponsoring the event, contact Martha (970) 453-6423.

Chefs needed at FIRC

The Family and Intercultural Resource Center will run three “Cooking Matters” classes this summer and is looking for experienced chefs to help teach the classes. Classes run for six weeks and teach people basic kitchen and nutrition skills. If you are interested, please contact Matt at FIRC matthewm@summitfirc.org (970) 389-1275.

Backstage Theatre needs volunteers

Breckenridge Backstage Theatre welcomes volunteers. As the season changes and delightful thoughts of bikes and hikes emerge, why not consider joining the enthusiastic live theater supporters who assist in productions?
