Summit Trail Running Series takes on the Flumes/Tom’s Baby network

The Breckenridge Recreation Center will host the fourth of the six races in the Summit Trail Running Series, Wednesday, July 23. Runners will have 7K or 11K course options on the Flumes and Tom’s Baby trail network north of downtown Breckenridge between Tiger and French Gulch roads. The race will begin at 6 p.m. at the Gold Run Road/Peabody Placer Trailhead. Day-of registration will be available starting at 4:45 p.m. in the trailhead parking lot.

“The course is not too demanding,” said race organizer Brian Schaefer. “It’s a fun course to run. It’s not really overwhelming for elevation gain.”

After the start on Gold Run Road both courses switch to singletrack for the remainder of the race. In addition to minimal elevation gain, Schaefer described the course as not too technical and fairly smooth.

“It’s rolling with long stretches of straight. Not a lot of turning,” he said. “You get some pretty awesome views of the Tenmile Range.”

Day-of registration for adults 19 and over is $25. Youths 18 and under can participate for $5. Schaefer said the series has seen substantial growth in recent years among younger runners.

The Quandary Grille in Breckenridge will host the post-race party and awards.
