Gold Hill Trail section reopens after clear-cutting debris was removed

A section of the Gold Hill Trail that was closed in mid-June due to logging cleanup operations is now open.

Local Forest Service officials announced the reopening Monday, July 28, and urged trail users to use caution on and around the trail as active logging operations are ongoing and expected to continue through August.

“I appreciate the public’s patience in the past month while our contractor worked on removing logging debris from the affected portion of the Gold Hill Trail,” said Jan Cutts, district ranger for the Dillon Ranger District, in a news release.

Officials announced the closure and rerouting of this section of the Gold Hill Trail on Friday, June 13, following a Forest Health Task Force meeting Thursday, May 29, in Frisco at which some residents expressed outrage at the state of the trail.

White River National Forest and Dillon Ranger District representatives explained more about the clear-cutting operations at that meeting.
