Opinion: To Breck council: ‘Ask not what your town can do for you, but what you can do for your town.’

Breck council looks to benefit itself

What a disappointment to learn that the Breckenridge Town Council wants to give themselves taxpayer-paid health benefits. How self-serving can you get? Service on the town council has long been motivated by a desire to serve our community; it’s largely a volunteer role. Apparently that tradition is now being corrupted by greedy members that want to extract something more for themselves. These part-time roles are already being paid generously with the added benefit of free access to town recreational facilities. Let’s not go down the road where local officials take more and more while draining the public’s money. Politicians tend to rationalize anything, but this type of self-dealing is unacceptable. If there are current council members that just can’t seem to pay their bills and make ends meet, then ask them to resign so they can pursue a real job that does not require sucking on the wallets of tax payers. To all Breckenridge Town Council members: Ask not what your town can do for you, but what you can do for your town. Otherwise, go away.
