I was one of the thousands of sober-ish attendees at Saturdays “Machine” concert in Dillon, and just wanted to say thank you Dillon, that was awesome.
The town really hit a homerun with this one. I saw a 70 year old couple grooving in biker leathers, shop owners, moms, dads and kids dancing in front of the stage, hippies, tourists, and what seemed like most of Summit County enjoying a cool evening at one of the most picturesque venues in the high country.
As to the Great Dillon Smokeout. It never happened. At least not as described in an 11-year-old’s letter to the Summit Daily we saw the other day. Yes, there were a few pockets of wafting pot smoke. It’s a Floyd show. But there was an officer right there. Just about every time. I watched new Dillon cops escort a few guys and girls from the grounds, but saw far more people dancing, swaying, and having a great time!
I wander at concerts to people watch and get a better view of the band, and from my vantage point at the top center, stage right, and left, it was one of the best times I’ve had at any Dillon event. Bar none.
Good for you Dillon! Don’t let a few bad apples (or editorials) detract from the great step you took in really utilizing that gem of a venue.
