Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., testified at a hearing about the Lake Hill Administrative Site Affordable Housing Act on Friday.
Polis addressed the House Natural Resources Committee about the bill he introduced last month.
“This legislation is a result of a community-driven effort to create housing opportunities for people who work but cannot afford to live in Colorado mountain communities,” Polis said during the hearing.
The bill would convey a 40-acre parcel in the Dillon Ranger District known as the Lake Hill Site to Summit County for fair market value. In turn, Summit County would develop the site for new affordable — or workforce — housing to support the growing recreation-based economy, Polis said.
Summit County would pay for all administrative costs associated with the conveyance, he said.
In addition, proceeds from the sale would be used for capital improvements and maintenance of U.S. Forest Service facilities in Region 2.
Sens. Mark Udall, D-Colo., and Michael Bennet, D-Colo., introduced a companion bill to H.R. 2337 earlier this week.
