Summit County workers looking for jobs will have the opportunity Wednesday to meet with multiple employers who are hiring.
The Frisco Workforce Center will hold a Summit County job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Silverthorne Pavilion, 400 Blue River Parkway. The event is designed to connect job seekers with current opportunities in the area.
Jack Taylor, Frisco Workforce Center business specialist, said this fair is focused on helping employers gear up for the winter season.
“It’s not necessarily just temporary positions,” he said. “There are full-time, part-time and seasonal workers needed.”
Taylor said approximately 20 businesses with current openings will attend the job fair, and some of those businesses have multiple openings.
“If you have a resume, you should bring it,” Taylor said. “Be prepared to interview and fill out applications.”
According to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, in August, Summit County’s unemployment rate was 5.7 percent, down from 6 percent in July and down from 7.2 percent one year ago, in August 2012. Due to the federal government shutdown, data from September is not yet available. Colorado’s non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 6.7 percent.
“This is an opportunity for folks to really come together and see who is hiring, and what kinds of positions they are trying to fill,” Taylor said.
The job fair will feature resorts, restaurants, health care and other retailers with a wide range of positions, from entry-level to higher-level jobs.
“Sometimes people come into the workforce center and are disappointed the only way an employer is taking an application is online,” Taylor said. “People genuinely feel if they could just get in front of a real person it would be to everyone’s advantage.”
The job fair will also have attorneys from legal aid to answer any questions applicants might have related to employment laws. No appointments are necessary and interested applicants can stop by throughout the day to speak with potential employers.
“We encourage people to go and talk with each employer to find out what they’re looking for,” Taylor said. “They’re at a job fair to recruit, so they’ll be interested in talking with anyone about positions they have and drumming up interest.”
