After a break for the holidays, Summit High School winter sports are set to resume this week with alpine ski racing, boys ice hockey and girls swimming and diving. Basketball, wrestling and nordic skiing are all scheduled follow suit next week.
Skiing: The Tiger Alpine team will open their racing season with giant slalom competition at Beaver Creek Friday followed by slalom at Keystone, Jan. 9. The nordic team will also kick off their season Friday, with classic competition at Gold Run Nordic Center in Breckenridge, and skate ski racing at the Frisco Nordic Center Saturday.
Hockey: The 0-5 Summit boys hockey team will be looking for their first win of the season when they head to Steamboat Springs Saturday to face the 4-3 Steamboat Sailors. The team will return home to host Bishop Machebeuf Monday, Jan. 6, at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena in Breckenridge.
Swimming: The girls swimming and diving team also resumes competition Saturday with a meet at Delta High School.
Basketball: The Tiger boys and girls basketball teams both return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 7, each with games against Eagle Valley. The 0-6 boys (0-2 in conference) will host the 3-5 Devils as part of a three-game home stand that also includes league opponents Rifle and Battle Mountain. The 2-3 lady Tigers will travel to Gypsum for a matchup on Eagle Valley’s home court. They return home to host Rifle Jan. 10. After opening the season with two straight wins, the Tiger girls will be hoping to put an end to a three-game slide when they face league opponent Eagle Valley.
Wrestling: Summit High’s wrestling team will head to Middle Park High School for a three-school meet Thursday, Jan. 9, then compete at the Eagle Valley Invite in Gypsum Saturday, Jan. 11.
