Lake Dillon Fire Board appoints former Red, White & Blue chief to vacancy

Lori Miller, who retired in 2012 as chief of the Red, White & Blue Fire Department in Breckenridge, was picked this week to fill a short-term vacancy on the Lake Dillon Fire Protection District Board.

“I am honored to have been chosen to fill this vacancy,” Miller said in a Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue news release. “I will give my best to this excellent organization.”

Miller, who lives in the Mesa Cortina neighborhood near Silverthorne, was tabbed to fill a spot vacated by longtime board member Linda St. John.

“We’re delighted to have Chief Miller join our board,” said board president Jerry “Doc” Peterson in the release. “She brings expertise from a distinguished career in the fire service in both Boulder and Breckenridge, terrific knowledge of the area and the people here, and a spirit of collaboration and can-do enthusiasm that we saw on display when she served as chief of our neighboring department.”

By state statute, the seat will be up for election on May 6, along with those of three other board members. Miller was selected for the volunteer position after a round of interviews with her and two other candidates who were willing to help guide the department.

In addition, board member Jim Cox was selected to take over St. John’s role as board vice president. Robert Sollenberger was elected to serve in Cox’s former role as treasurer.

Positions on the fire protection district board are open to any district property owner or resident of at least 30 days who is an eligible voter. Self-nominating forms will be available from Feb. 5 to 20 at Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue Station 2, 401 Blue River Parkway in Silverthorne.

Self-nominating forms must be returned by Feb. 28.
