Bark for Life needs your help

Bark for Life is a dog-friendly event that raises money for the American Cancer Society. Volunteers are needed to help stage this event. If you are a dog person or you or someone you know has been touched by cancer, your help would be greatly appreciated. The meeting for volunteers is May 9 at the Buffalo Mountain Room at the Frisco Commons from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Summit County moms clean house

Summit County moms are cleaning house. A bunch of moms have gotten together to hold a mega-sale on used kids clothing, toys, outdoor gear and maternity items. The sale will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Summit County Senior & Community Center. Open to the public. Get ready to shop for deals. If you would like a table to sell your kids items at the sale, the cost is $20. Tables and chairs are provided. Challenge local poster contest

The local organizing committee for the Breckenridge stages of the 2013 USA Pro Challenge is accepting submissions for the Host City Poster Contest. Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013, and should tie in with the race and cycling in Breckenridge. Winning artwork will appear locally on posters, merchandise, advertising and, potentially, other event collateral. The winning artist will receive a prize package of event merchandise and VIP passes to the event in Breckenridge. Submissions must be 11 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches (to accommodate for bleeds) and preferably submitted via email (jeff@gwlodging.com). Accepted file formats include .jpg (300 dpi) or .pdf. Artists may also submit work in person at the Breckenridge Resort Chamber offices (111 Ski Hill Road, Breckenridge) or via U.S. Mail to the Breckenridge Resort Chamber, ATTN: UPCC Poster Contest, P.O. Help Summit students compete in worldwide creativity competition

This month, six students from Summit Middle School will travel to the University of Tennessee to compete in a global competition against schools from 48 states and 30 countries in an event called “Destination Imagination.” The team “Wait, ... What?” is hard at work raising funds for the trip and invites you to join them at a fund-raising dinner and silent auction at the Elks Lodge this Friday May 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door and can be reserved by calling the Elks Lodge at (970) 468-2561. Buy tickets at the Middle School office, Dillon Valley Elementary school or the Frisco offices of High Country Healthcare.

Information for families

of students with disabilities

Families of fifth-grade students with disabilities attending Dillon Valley, Silverthorne and Summit Cove Elementary are invited to Summit Middle School for an opportunity to learn about the structure of the middle school, including its built-in support systems, and to meet staff members, including the special education staff, counselors and members of the administration.

Connect with other families of students with disabilities and ask questions. Translators will be on hand for the meeting on Tuesday, May 14, from 5-6 p.m.

Free home-buyer education class

Have you ever wondered what steps are involved in purchasing a home? Come find out at our free home-buyer education class on Thursday, May 9, from 12:30-5 p.m. in the Mount Royal Room at the County Commons in Frisco. You will learn the basics, from A to Z, of what it takes to buy a home, as now sure is a great time to do so. The class is free and is put on by the Summit Combined Housing Authority with help from local volunteers, who will walk you through the lending process, real estate transaction, title company portion and home inspection.
