Backstage Theatre casting call
Breckenridge Backstage Theatre is casting actors and actresses ages 18 to 50 for a workshop production of an original show,THE 10TH, about the soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division, written and directed by artistic director Christopher Willard (HIDDEN, OFFICE SPACE THE MUSICAL). Actors with strong dramatic and improvisational skills are needed. The workshop will be held in Breckenridge Sept. 23-27. Participants must be available for all-day rehearsals thru the week. Lunch and a private performance to benefit Domus Pacis Family Respite
Join us for lunch of award winning BBQ from Bonnie Q BBQ at the Roadhouse in Dillon at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17 and then on to a private performance of "The World Goes Round" at the Lake Dillon Theatre Company sponsored by an anonymous donor. An eclectic collection of love songs, torch songs, and witty comic numbers from two of the greatest composers ever to grace the Broadway stage John Kander and Fred Ebb, this musical spectacular will entertain and dazzle. The event will benefit Domus Pacis Family Respite's mission of providing week long respites in the High Country for families impacted by cancer. Costs of tickets are $55/person and include lunch and show. Tickets are limited and can only be purchased by calling Vince at 970-547-4745.
Christ Lutheran Church to host VBS
Christ Lutheran Church is hosting a free Vacation Bible School July 29 through August 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This year's program, entitled SonSurf Beach Bash, is available for children 3 years old through 5th grade. Summit preschool now enrolling
Summit County Preschool in Frisco is now enrolling 4-year-olds in their preschool program as well as before and after school children who will be attending Frisco Elementary. Please contact the school at (970) 668-5508 for more information. Before/after school programming begins Aug. 21. The cost is $20 for Mondays and $15 per day Tuesday through Friday. The center hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The before/after school programming is available on days the Summit School District is in session.
Summit in Honduras bake sale
Summit in Honduras is having their Annual Bake and Craft Sale this coming weekend, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be fabulous baked goods, crafts from Honduras and local craftspeople, jewelry from Boulder artist Maggie Connolly, and Honduras coffee. Donations of baked goods and crafts is gratefully appreciated and all of the money raised will go to the educational and health outreach in rural, mountain villages in Northwestern Honduras. The sale will be in the Parish Hall of St. John's at the corner of French and Lincoln in Breckenridge. For more information please call Maggie at 389-7544.
Summit Music and Arts welcomes clarinetist Julianne Scott
Local nonprofit music presenter Summit Music and Arts welcomes Julianne Scott, principal clarinetist with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, performing music for clarinet and piano by Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Scriabin, and Gershwin with artistic director and pianist Len Rhodes on Sunday, Aug. 4, at 4 p.m. SMAA continues to present its outstanding concert series at Lord of the Mountains, 56 Hwy 6, Dillon CO 80435. Seniors rummage sale
The Summit Seniors Gigantic Royal Rummage Sale and Silent Auction will be Thursday, Aug. 15, through Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco. Donations will be accepted noon to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Center. Please do not leave items outside the building at any other time. Clothes should be clean and good condition, and we will not accept large furniture, large appliances, TVs, computer monitors without the computers, mattresses, encyclopedias or magazines. The pre-sale will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, and there will be an admission fee of $10 for all ages 11 and over and $5 for all under 11. Regular sale hours with no admission fee will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.
10th Mountain Roller Dolls offers funding
10th Mountain Roller Dolls offer an opportunity for charitable organization to receive event funds from Aug. 17 Roller Derby bout "Mountains vs. Peaks." The 10th Mountain Roller Dolls are a recreational roller derby league, and 501(c)3, seeking WFTDA apprenticeship. While it is not required, preference is given to organizations with a focus on our priority areas: education, the environment and community. Consideration is given to nonprofits (501(c)3 status required) located in/or serving the communities of Summit, Eagle and Garfield counties and those that are willing to lend support to the 10th MRD in preparation and/or production of the event. Organizations can request a complete list of funding criteria and application at firstname.lastname@example.org and reply (to same address) or by mail to P.O. Box 1717 Gypsum, CO 81637 to receive funds from the Aug. 17 event "Mountains vs. Peaks" by Aug. 2 Completed applications will be forwarded internally to the 10th Mountain Roller Dolls Board of Directors, Events Committee and league members.
BRC July Mixer
The Breckenridge Resort Chamber (BRC) Ambassadors are hosting the July mixer at Wedgewood Lodge at 535 4 O'clock Road in Breckenridge. The mixer will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday. The July Mixer is sponsored by Black Diamond Catering and Wedgewood Lodge. Beer will be provided by Bud Light and appetizers will provided by Black Diamond Catering. Admission is $5 for BRC members, $10 for non members. The BRC mixer is a great opportunity to network with other business people from the community in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. 'What's Up with Our Forests?'
Join Colorado State University Extension and Friends of the Dillon Ranger District to explore the dynamic forests of Summit County. This 10-part "What's Up With Our Forests?" workshop series takes place at different trailhead locations throughout the county, offering participants guided hikes focused on current forest issues. Topics include tree ID, historic perspectives, stakeholder interest, the wildland urban interface and community wildland fire issues. Hikes are free and all are welcome to attend on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Mad Science comes to the Summit Library for Summer Reading Program Finale!
The Summit County Library is excited to present "Mad Science," a very special event to help celebrate the end of this year's Summer Reading Program. For more than 25 years, Mad Science programs have been combining education with entertainment, to reach more than 6.5 million children with hands-on science experiences. In this special "Fire and Ice" presentation, children will be amazed to see giant beach balls floating in the air, foggy dry ice storms and even a special Mad Science "burp" potion, while learning about chemical reactions, air pressure and the states of matter. The first stop for Mad Science will be at the South Branch Library, Breckenridge, at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 30. The next appearance will be at the North Branch Library, Silverthorne, on Wednesday, July 31, 10:30 a.m., followed by a final show that afternoon at 1 p.m., at the Main Library, County Commons, Frisco. The program is free to the public, and is geared toward kids ages 3 to 11. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. This show is the finale of the weekly summer reading program, held at all Summit County Libraries. As a reminder to parents, please have your children bring in their reading time logs for their last chance to earn free books and other prizes. "Have Book — Will Travel" summer reading finale! After a summer of traveling through the magic of books and your imagination, this year's Teen Summer Reading Program is winding down. The grand finale will take place on Tuesday, July 30, from 2-5 p.m. at the North Branch Library, 651 Center Circle, Silverthorne, with food, games, prizes and more!
