Theobald Award Reception
The community is invited to join the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance for the Second Annual Theobald Award Reception to recognize outstanding contributions to the preservation of Breckenridge’s history. Reiling Dredge Public Outreach Day
What lies ahead for the Reiling Dredge? A preservation master plan is being developed through the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance with a grant from the State Historical Fund. The public is invited to participate in the planning process on Wednesday, August 14. Real Life Homeowner Wildfire Experiences
We will hear directly from a homeowner who has gone through a major wildfire, lost much and published a book about the experience to help others be better prepared for similar outcomes. Award-winning author and researcher Linda Masterson tackles a subject she knows all too well in Surviving Wildfire: Get Prepared, Stay Alive, Rebuild Your Life (A Handbook for Homeowners). Masterson’s home and 72-acre tree farm burned to the ground in a Colorado wildfire in 2011, leaving her with little but her laptop and a fierce determination to get back on her feet and get on with her life. Masterson will talk about next steps: what individual homeowners, homeowners associations, property managers, and other stakeholders can do to better protect themselves, their animals, and their property against wildfire. Tumble Bubbles Ribbon Cutting, Aug. 11
New Breckenridge business operating Sundays at Maggie Pond. Please join us for a ribbon cutting for Tumble Bubbles! Tumble Bubbles are large, inflatable balls that allow children and adults to climb inside and walk, roll or jump on water. Free Tumble Bubble rides for the first 20 participants. The celebration will take place on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at Maggie Pond and includes a Ribbon Cutting by the Breckenridge Resort Chamber.
Fundraising effort for Prescott Hotshot firefighters’ families
The Lake Dillon Fire Protection District, Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District and Copper Mountain Fire Department have joined forces in a fundraising effort for the families of the 19 Prescott Hotshot firefighters who perished in the Yarnell Hill Fire near Yarnell, Ariz., on June 30. The three departments collectively have set a goal of raising a minimum of $1,900. The money will be sent to the Yarnell Hill National Fallen Firefighter Fund Hero Fund to support the educational and medical support of the firefighters’ surviving family members. The Summit County fire departments are asking the public’s support for this endeavor. Contributions in the form of checks or cash will be accepted during regular business hours at Lake Dillon Fire Station No. 10 Administration Offices, 401 Blue River Parkway, Silverthorne or by mail at P.O. Box 4428, Dillon, Colo., 80435; Red, White & Blue Fire Station No. 6, 316 N. Main St., Breckenridge or by mail at P.O. Box 710, Breckenridge, Colo., 80424; or Copper Mountain Fire Station No. 1, 0477 Copper Road, Copper Mountain, or by mail at P.O. Box 3195, Copper Mountain, Colo., 80443. Money collected from public donations will be added to the funds being raised internally at all three fire departments. The deadline for donations will be 5 p.m., Friday, Aug 9. Please make checks payable to the individual fire departments noting on the check: “Yarnell Hill Fallen Firefighters Fundraiser.”
Tuesday Twilight Trail Project in Frisco

Sign up for Circle the Summit Bike Ride
Avalanche Physical Therapy and Summit Biking bring you the 6th annual Circle the Summit bike ride on Saturday, August 17. The adult fee is $65 through Aug. 15. Fees go up to $75 on Aug. 15. Circle the Summit is a great, small ride with four distances – 21, 45, 60 and 100 miles. All the rides begin and end in downtown Frisco. Along all the routes, you’ll find aid stations, bike mechanics, and course marshals. When you end your ride on Frisco’s Main Street, you’ll be treated to a great lunch, music and local brews. The 6th annual Circle the Summit bike ride is brought to you by Summit Biking and Avalanche Physical Therapy. Tools for schools
Alpine Bank is collecting new school supply donations for local children in need until Aug. 30. Any school necessities, from backpacks to paper to pencils, will be gladly accepted. Donations will be distributed to Summit County schools. Please drop donations off at any of our Summit County Alpine Bank locations.
Caregiver Memory Loss Group
The Caregiver Memory Loss support group will meet today at 1 p.m. at the Summit County Senior and Community Center. In addition to regular support conversations from each participant, the facilitator will review details from the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference held in July. The conversations will cover new studies, research results and findings covering the spectrum of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias presented at the conference. No registration required.
