Bednarz: Campaigning and golfing while Washington burns
Ryan Summerlin February 26, 2013
Sequesters? Fiscal cliff? What new name are our elected representatives going to use when they again kick the can down the road? The supposedly automatic spending cuts appear to be totally inadequate to the financial problem we have, and do not address increases in taxes that are also necessary. They do not address cuts in entitlement programs that are the biggest part of our financial problem.
So we have a president who doesn’t know how to get the parties together to address this real problem; he apparently doesn’t even recognize we have a real problem, but he can play golf 100 times in the last four years. And, instead of working with Congress, and driving them to a bi-partisan solution, he prefers to go out and talk to the people. He loves campaigning, apparently. I’m retired and love to play golf but I haven’t played 100 times in that time frame.
We so badly need leadership in this country and Mr. Obama, by his credentials never offered us the kind of leadership we need. But, we elected him anyway. So, people, we need to think really strongly about who we elect the next time. We have to find people with capability and interest in doing what’s right for America, not just what’s right for them.
