Aside from apple pie there is perhaps nothing more American than bacon. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing remains to be determined, but one thing most can agree on is that bacon is delicious. This month, Blue Ribbon’s annual Bacon Tour is stopping at Keystone Resort for the second year in a row, bringing with it some 3,000 pounds of cured meat, along with live music, beer and even bacon bloody mary’s.The featured event of the Bacon Tour, and the one you will not want to miss, will be the cooking competition where bacon vendors will team up with Keystone’s finest chefs in creating bacon-inspired dishes. Adding a nice little twist, there will be both savory and sweet categories in which they will compete, meaning that participants will not only be able to have bacon for the main course, but also for dessert. There will also be bacon lectures and cooking demonstrations at Warren Station throughout the weekend, where participants can explore the versatility of bacon and learn how to use in a variety of techniques to make some truly delicious hog dishes at home.To accompany the pig-inspired festivities, what could be better than some good old-fashioned rock n’ roll? Attendees of the Bacon Tour will be treated to free performances by Universally Famous Rocket Surgeons, Fort Collins’ own Better Than Bacon, Moreland and Arbuckle and Hell’s Belles, an AC/DC cover band. If you have kids in tow, Keystone will also be hosting free kids craft activities to keep the tots happy during the tour. The party starts Saturday from 1 – 6 p.m., and continues through Sunday, 1 – 6 p.m. One day of pigging out will cost you $30, and if one day is not enough, weekend packages begin at $50. Lodging and weekend packages are also available starting at $80. One- day ticket purchases get you a koozie, a hat, five bacon bucks to use at vendor tents, and unlimited tasting at purveyor tents. A weekend pass will get you a koozie, hat, eight bacon bucks for vendors and unlimited tasting from purveyors. The lodging package includes a night of lodging at Keystone and a day pass, or, for $149, two nights of lodging at Keystone and a weekend pass. Finally, for $60, those who want to go truly hog wild can enjoy the Bacon Elegance Dinner at the Wolf Rock Steakhouse tonight, a bacon themed feast, including three bacon themed food tents and a free drink.
