Breckenridge film fest hosts murder mystery night
Ryan Summerlin March 7, 2012
It was so schmaltzy, you know it just had to pop up somewhere along the line – and leave it to the gals at the Breckenridge Festival of Film to breath new life into (sing it with me, now):
Love, exciting and new; Come Aboard. We’re expecting you.
That’s right. “The Love Boat” has sailed into the high elevations of Colorado, but it’s hit some rough weather, with its latest episode of “Murder on the High Seas.”
Returning local co-producers Justin Schlosberg and Carisa Peterson have written a murder mystery Peterson describes as “a mad mishmash of familial archetypes you love to hate, and a raucous revisit and retooling of newsmakers, all of which come on board for Breckenridge’s latest craze – a cruise down the Blue.”
This year’s cast includes Diane Trausch, Albert Stowell, Al Bacher, Bonnie Smith, Bernadette Foley, Bryan Etkie, Marty Ferris and Dave Levinson.
“We have some very talented locals, whose strength of talent is matched only by their strength of character, so boy, do we have some characters,” Peterson said. “Many of our faces will be familiar, particularly if you’ve strolled Real Estate Row – also known as Main Street, Breckenridge. That’s not to say the other local industries represented in our wonderful cast won’t be bringing their own talents and flair for the absurd.”
The evening begins with a cocktail and appetizer hour as cast members mingle with guests, dropping clues until the performance takes place.
The four-course dinner consists of “cruise-ship” cuisine, including ceviche and whole-pineapple with fruit skewers; tomato basil and coconut leek soup; chicken-curry and cilantro-pesto salad; Cuban pulled pork sandwiches; pasta with courgette sauce and spinach balls; baked tilapia with fresh ginger; and a banana and chocolate foam dessert.
The top prize is a one-night getaway in one of ResortQuest’s luxury properties, for the closest guess of Who Dunnit. Guests are encouraged to wear their best cruise attire.
“Be sure to bring your all-weather survival gear for this campy trip,” Peterson said.
