Breckenridge will kick off the holiday season with a new event, Race of the Santas, on Dec. 3. The fun run benefits Adopt an Angel Summit County and takes place just prior to the Lighting of Breckenridge. The schedule for the Dec. 3 Lighting of Breck is as follows:
Noon to 5 p.m. – Bring the family for ornament decoration at Ready, Paint, Fire (323 N. Main St.). Paint ceramics and receive the finished product the next day.
4 p.m. – Race of the Santas will bring some 100 Santa Clauses sprinting down Main Street, all in the name of fun and fundraising. Registration at www.gobreck.com is currently open; it starts at $20 and includes a free Santa suit and donation.
4:30 p.m. – Free cocoa, cookies and caroling at the Red, White and Blue Fire Station (316 N. Main St.).
4:45 p.m. – Santa arrives at the fire station in a horse-drawn carriage to lead a procession to the Blue River Plaza for the official town lighting. All are welcome to join the free Main Street procession.
5:30-7 p.m. – Visit with Santa and let the little ones share their holiday wishes at the Barney Ford House Museum (111 E. Washington Ave.), across from the plaza.
Festivities continue throughout December with activities including a holiday window-decorating contest, holiday-themed performances at the Backstage Theatre, Second Saturday, Snowflake Challenge, Winter Dew Tour and more.
