Coleman: Romney/Ryan administration would cut FEMA by 40 percent
Ryan Summerlin November 4, 2012
Thanks should be given to our police, firefighter, medical, public utility and other emergency worker first responders for their valiant Hurricane Sandy efforts. With FEMA and our president’s leadership we will bounce back.
Mitt Romney has said that money spent on disaster relief is immoral and at a June 2011 Saint Anselm College debate he indicated that FEMA should be privatized. According to the Washington Post today, the Romney/Ryan budget would cut FEMA by 40 percent, virtually eliminating the ability of FEMA and other agencies to predict and respond to disasters such as Hurricane Sandy. In a Romney/Ryan administration, current funding to FEMA’s and other agencies that help during disasters would be used to fund additional tax reduction for the very rich.
