Celebrate Earth Day this year with the High Country Conservation Center at its Party for the Planet at Pug’s from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Join the HCCC at Pug Ryan’s Brewery in Dillon for live music, good food and drinks! Entry is $10 and you receive appetizers and two beers. All proceeds benefit High Country Conservation Center’s new Summit Community Garden Network supporting five community gardens across Summit County. The Summit County Wildfire Council invites Summit County property owners to learn more about the 2013 Hazardous Fuels Reduction Grant Program. This grant program provides assistance to eligible homeowner groups, allowing residents to conduct hazardous-fuels reduction (for example, tree-removal projects) in their neighborhoods. Effective fuels-reduction projects help protect Summit County communities and watersheds from the threat of wildfire. Interested community members can download a grant application from Summit County’s Colorado State University Extension page, http://www.co.summit.co.us/extension. Parents who would like to visit Summit County Preschool for summer and fall enrollment are invited to an enrollment open house from 10 a.m. to noon and 3-5 p.m. on Thursday. Stop in during those times to visit classrooms, meet teachers and complete paperwork for enrollment. Refreshments will be provided and questions will be answered. Registration is now open for the 37th annual Salomon Run the Rockies weekend, June 8-9. Registration is available online at http://www.RuntheRockies.com. Current discounted prices are $50 for the half marathon and $40 for the 10K. The trail race registration is $40 for the 5K and 10K. Prices go up May 1. Day-of registration will be available for both races. Registration for the road race on June 8 is available at the Frisco Recreation Building at Third Avenue and Main Street from 6-8 a.m. The 5K and 10K trail race day-of registration will be available at the Frisco Day Lodge from 7-8 a.m. on Sunday, June 9. Whether you like it or not, they’re still there. Where? Afghanistan. Who are they? People, the sons and relatives of Summit County residents, who are serving our nation in our all volunteer military. They live under poor conditions, especially if they are serving in FOBs, Forward Operating Bases. They love receiving our packages filled with goodies and necessities, which although addressed to one soldier, are shared with their buddies.
