Congressman Polis stops in Frisco Tuesday
October 30, 2012
In a final campaign push, Jared Polis, the Democratic incumbent for the 2nd Congressional District, visited the Backcountry Brewery in Frisco, along with several of his fellow campaigning Democrats, Tuesday afternoon.
“It’s always exciting to be here in Summit County,” Polis said, welcoming attendees as they walked in.
Gathered in an informal circle of plush couch and chairs, Polis hosted a question-and-answer format discussion with residents of the county. Topics discussed ranged widely, including the economy, an amendment for turning the Electoral College over in favor of a popular vote, the oil and gas industry, education, climate change and health care.
Emily Tracy, state Senate District 8 hopeful, emphasized the importance of education, particularly the importance of special education, and making sure children are receiving the best instruction to prepare them for the ever-changing global environment.
Polis agreed, adding that creativity and innovation will help pave the way.
“We need to have a landscape (in which) districts can innovate,” Polis said. “We’re trying to create a more dynamic way to fund schools so (that) innovation is encouraged.”

All candidates present emphasized the importance of voting, and encouraging others to vote. Each individual voter is important, said Polis.
“This is how we win elections – voter by voter, door by door,” he said. “Summit County could be the margin in a tied race, no doubt about it.”
Julie Charneskie, co-chair of the Summit County Democrat Party, mentioned the positive energy that’s been gathering around the end of the elections.
“We are just really excited about all the enthusiasm, the energy from volunteers throughout the county who are feeling very positive about this election,” she said.
With so many people focusing on the outcome of the presidential race, Charneskie reminded everyone not to forget the local level candidates.
“Every single one of them is just working hard,” she said.
