Construction complications continue on Interstate 70

Continuing maintenance and reconstruction work will be causing traffic stops and lane closures along the Interstate 70 mountain corridor throughout the holiday season, reports from the Colorado Department of Transportation show.
Single overnight lane closures in both directions will continue through the month of December, while crews are conducting routine maintenance, including sweeping through and near the Eisenhower Tunnel. Lanes will be closed between milemarkers 212-219 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Drivers should expect delays, according to a CDOT statement.
Travelers should also expect periodic traffic stops of roughly 10 minutes each around the clock through January near the Twin Tunnels east of Idaho Springs, while crews are conducting blasting operations to prepare the nearby frontage road for heavier use when a tunnel-widening project forces CDOT to close I-70 at the tunnels next summer.
There will also be single-lane closures on westbound I-70 between Evergreen and Golden for two miles at a time while crews conduct crack-sealing operations. Closures will be from 6 p.m. through 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday until January, and delays are possible, CDOT stated in the release.
