Hoosier Pass road rage ends with brandishing of .357, arrest

A local man was arrested Aug. 14 after brandishing a .357 revolver following a road rage incident on Hoosier Pass.

Brent Allen Bohmont, 30, of Alma, is charged in Summit County Court with one count of felony menacing.

According to Summit County Sheriff’s Office records, at approximately 9 a.m. Aug. 14 Bohmont was driving northbound on Colorado Highway 9, Hoosier Pass, when he approached a vehicle driving below the speed limit. When the road straightened out, Bohmont reported he attempted to pass the vehicle, only to have it speed up to block him from re-entering the northbound lane.

According to a statement delivered to deputies, the vehicle followed Bohmont to his employer’s work yard at the intersection of Continental Court and Coyne Valley Road in Breckenridge. The second driver pulled in behind Bohmont, threatening to report his “aggressive” driving to authorities, according to sheriff’s office records.

Fearing for his safety, Bohmont retrieved an unloaded .357 revolver from under the passenger seat of his silver Nissan Xterra and confronted the second driver, records stated. The second driver left the work yard and waited for authorities to arrive near the intersection of Continental and Coyne Valley.

Upon their arrival, authorities interviewed both drivers who had similar recounts of the incident, although Bohmont contended it was the other driver who was driving aggressively.

Bohmont was subsequently placed into custody. His .357 revolver was booked into evidence.
