The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Colorado chapter, recently recognized Dancing with the Mountain Stars, the annual event put on by the Summit Medical Center Health Foundation, as one of three top fundraising events in 2012.
Established in 2008 as the inaugural fundraising gala for St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Vail, Dancing with the Mountain Stars features a dance competition with local celebrities, a dance exhibition performed by professional dancers and dancing for all guests, in addition to dinner and a silent auction. In 2008, it drew 423 guests and raised $155,000; in 2012 it drew 762 guests and raised $267,000.
Chief development officer Debra Edwards accepted the award on behalf of the foundation. “The growth and support for the event is a testament to the excitement this event creates in our community each year,” she said. “We are humbled and honored by its success and grateful for the financial support it has and continues to generate for our hospital.”
The Foundation raises and distributes funds, primarily to hospital programs and services that benefit the underserved, the elderly and the community.
