After playing The Goat Soup & Whiskey Tavern in Keystone with Rebel Tongue last week, Danny Bedrosian (Parliament-Funkadelic) returns for an encore tonight. Here, Bedrosian gives us a window into his world:

It’s essentially a pure funk sound, derived from the pfunk music that I am a part of, mixed with other influences of mine, like neo soul, hard bop, and classical music, as well as Armenian folk music, touching on my roots.

The source of my inspiration is most likely my parents, classical concert recitalists who ran their own piano school. I lived in the school until I was 18 and moved out. It was my most important formative period, setting the foundation for all that was to come. My sisters and I were classically trained from age 3 on by our parents as part of the school.

It’s always fun playing this music; it has a lightheartedness, and at the same time, a deep, aggressive feel to it, which sparks a feel all its own.

I am finishing up my new solo album “Songs for a Better Tomorrow.” It is the ninth album recorded under my name. That includes my Secret Army projects, as we just released a new Secret Army live album that will be for sale at the show.

Our next big move is more shows abroad. We are doing our second Australia show this coming March, in Melbourne, and we are going to Europe this summer.

A lot of great music, polyrhythmic funk sounds that are unfortunately rare these days, and a lot of soul.

We have a lot of love for Colorado, this being our second Colorado tour for Secret Army. This time I am proud to have the rhythm section from Rebel Tongue, Chris and Justin, with me on drums and bass guitar, respectively. Secret Army is oftentimes, almost always, a cut-up power trio.
