Fly Fishing Film Tour comes to Breckenridge

Special to the DailyThe Fly Fishing Film Tour will be in Breckenridge at the Speakeasy Theater on Wednesday.

One of the fly fishing world’s most celebrated annual events will land in Breck this Wednesday with the Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T), the largest event of its kind that kicked off in January and will visit 119 cities before it is through.

“The tour is in its 6th year and has been growing year after year,” said F3T filmmaker, PR guy and road manager Thad Robison. “The first year we ran the tour we screened in 11 cities so it has been growing at a great pace.”

The film tour is a showcase of the best filmmakers in the fly fishing industry, as well as a way to raise awareness and funds for supporting conservation groups, an expo for local retailers and outfitters, and a sporting get-together for anglers and fans.

“This year’s tour simply has the most diverse, polished, beautiful, hilarious, and compelling set of films we’ve ever seen,” said Robison.

Guaranteed to bring out the Summit County trout bums, these films are the fishing equivalent of ski porn, and after watching the trailers on the F3T website, these productions will not disappoint, lending insights into some of the greatest contemporary fishing minds of our time with sophisticated high quality film making techniques behind them. With never-before seen footage from across the globe, a raucous atmosphere and prize giveaways, local businesses, conservation groups, filmmakers and fans all stand to benefit from the screenings.

This year’s tour promises a greater sense of adventure and diversity of content than any prior tour or other touring show, according to Robison. “We’ve got incredible footage from our favorite backyard locales like Montana, Florida, Idaho, and the Gulf, and we’ve got some amazing segments from destinations like the Bahamas, Belize, Alaska, New Zealand and Canada,” he said. “But on top of that is the unique stories that are told along the way. We’ve got a punk rock band fishing in Wisconsin, a surgeon with Parkinson’s getting after it at Hemingway’s favorite old spots, a touching father-son story from Scotland, even this amazingly shot piece about nothing but insects. We believe adventure is what you make it, and regardless of where you are, it’s all about doing what you love.”

“Our goal in doing this is to share our passion and support the sport we love”, says F3T producer Chris Keig. “This year our tour will donate over $30,000 to filmmakers. We’ll work in conjunction with over 175 local businesses and 150 conservation groups, and we’ll give away over $350,000 in prizes to fans who come to our shows. Its important people know that walking the talk is at our core.”

Tickets have been selling out in advance for many shows, so organizers recommend purchasing in advance online or from Mountain Angler in Breckenridge. The tour is produced by Webeye Group, LLC, with sponsors including Costa, Patagonia, Sage, Hardy Reels, Yeti Coolers, Scientific Anglers, Trout Unlimited, Mountain magazine, El Pescador, Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures, and is presented in HD by the Outdoor Channel.
