Next week’s Mountain Pose Yoga and Medicine Symposium aims to provide relaxation and professional development for those who work in the health care industry.

“Yoga can be incorporated into healing the healers, or really focus on the wellness of the people who are trying to keep us well,” said Erin Woods, marketing manager for the Copper Mountain Resort Association.

The five-day symposium, which starts Aug. 22, is for medical professionals, yoga enthusiasts and anyone who works in health care industry. The days are filled with numerous lectures – like “Yoga for the Caregiver: Heal thyself, Heal Thy Patient” or “Mindful-Based Stress Reduction and the Effects on the Inflammatory Cascade and Vascular Health” – and speckled with yoga sessions. The lectures and yoga instructions will benefit medical professionals because they can incorporate the knowledge into their everyday practices with patients, or for themselves – like simple breathing techniques for the operating room, Woods said.

Local doctors “Doc PJ” Perrinjaquet, Dr. Karen Wyatt and therapist Bryan Austill will be presenting, in addition to speakers like Dr. Sara Gottfried, author of “The Hormone Cure: Reclaim Balance, Sleep, Sex Drive and Vitality Naturally with The Gottfried Protocol.” In total, there are 30-plus workshops and lectures available.

The program has been approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians for up to 25 continuing medical education credits.

The Symposium also runs concurrently with Copper’s Genuine Jazz and Wine Festival, with symposium passes granting attendees access to all Jazz and Wine events.
