Last weekend to ski Breckenridge Ski Resort
Ryan Summerlin April 26, 2012
After remaining open two weekends beyond scheduled closing, Breck prepares to call it quits for the season after one last hurrah this weekend.
As part of the final wish of the 50th anniversary season, the resort has been giving away gondola lot parking – it’s free throughout the Friday through Sunday ski days. Shuttles and the gondola take skiers and riders to the Peak 8 base area.
Also a perk for the last weekend of the season is the Breckenridge Sports tent sale on the snow at Peak 8. They started the tent sale last weekend with 100 different pairs of two- and three-year-old demo skis. The tent is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The gondola will start turning this weekend at 8:30 a.m., stopping at 4:45 p.m., and lifts open at 9 a.m. The Colorado SuperChair, the T-Bar, Imperial Express and Rip’s Ride and the administration Magic Carpet are open during the weekend. Imperial Express runs 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather-dependent. If necessary to accommodate guests, the Rocky Mountain Chair will open.
Thirty-five percent of the resort, or 819 acres, remains open, including Freeway and Park Lane terrain parks. The Gold Runner Coaster also operates Friday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and open food and beverage locations include Ski Hill Grill, the TBar and Sevens. The Vista Haus will have limited operations.
Ski School operations have been scaled back to Peak 8 only, and special lesson pricing is in effect. Breck Sports rentals are available at the Peak 8 store and are offering 50 percent off products.
As part of the deal, lift tickets are $50 and can be purchased online or in person. Season passes will be honored. Though EpicMix is still in effect and still recording data (with extended weekends skiers and riders earning the “Second Season” pin), EpicMix Photos have been discontinued for the season.
