A Leadville man pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child Wednesday after he was reportedly caught in a young girl’s bed in July of 2012.
Jody Eric Vigil is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $100,000 bond, awaiting an April 1 sentencing hearing in Summit County.
Vigil, 41, admitted to one count of sexual assault on a child when in a position of trust, a Class 4 felony, one count of possession of marijuana and violation of a protection order.
Deputy district attorney Mark Franklin dropped a charge relating to a pattern of abuse as part of the plea deal.
“It was important to ensure that the defendant was held accountable for the gravest of these charges, the assault on a minor when in a position of trust,” Franklin stated in a release on the plea. “I feel this was a good result, and will await the outcome of the sentencing hearing before I comment further.”
Vigil was arrested after he was reportedly caught on top of the young girl, and the child told investigators he had “done it,” according to a statement from the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Vigil faces a minimum of two years and up to a life sentence in prison as a result of the sex assault charge.
