Breckenridge Ski Resort is building momentum for opening day by planning a variety of activities in the week leading up to the big event, including a new scavenger hunt that will have snow enthusiasts scouring the state to win prizes.

Resort staffers said they hope the events will generate excitement and public engagement leading up to the 2013-14 season opener Friday, Nov. 8.

Six Days of Sixes Scavenger Hunt

The Six Days of Sixes Scavenger Hunt will have participants searching six counties for six large wooden carvings in the shape of the Peak 6 logos. The trophies will be hidden near some well-known Colorado landmarks in the week leading up to opening day.

“Our guests are amazing, and we always try to find ways to reward them,” said Alysa Hetze, communications representative for Breckenridge Ski Resort.

The scavenger hunt is especially geared toward Breck resort’s social media fans. To take part in the hunt, participants will have to follow the resort on Instagram (@breckenridgemtn), where clues will be leaked regarding the trophy locations.

“Once you find a trophy, send us a picture of yourself with the trophy and you’ve won,” Hetze said.

Prizes include riding the first chair of the season, breaking through the opening-day banner and getting some of the first tracks down the hill.

“We think it will really make for a memorable opening day for our fans,” Hetze said.

The hunt will begin Nov. 2. Full details will be released as the start date approaches, Hetze said.

Wake up Breck

On Thursday, Nov. 7, the resort will host its annual “Wake up Breck” promotion, which provides free coffee and commemorative Breck mugs throughout coffee shops in town. This year the mug design is unique to the inaugural season of Peak 6.

“This is a way for the community and the resort to team up, show excitement and celebrate the upcoming season,” Hetze said. “It is also a way for us to show our appreciation and support for our locals and the town of Breckenridge.”

The giveaway begins at 7 a.m. and continues while supplies last. For a full list of participating coffee shops, visit http://www.Breckenridge.com/Wake-Up-Breck.

Opening Day Festivities

Breckenridge Ski Resort staffers said they are making sure their 52nd season opener is an unforgettable one.

“We ended last year with an extended season and this year we are making history with opening the largest expansion in over a decade,” Hetze said.

Peak 8 opens early on Friday to celebrate the resort’s opening day. The first several hundred guests will get to partake in free breakfast items, including the Ski Hill Grill’s new Bavarian cream-stuffed Nutella eclairs.

Festivities will include a tribute to U.S. service men and women as part of Veteran’s Day weekend.

“I think Breckenridge Ski Resort speaks on behalf of all Americans when we say how appreciative we are of the brave men and women who have served this country both past and present,” said Jordan Cole-Rehfeldt, the resort’s event manager. “Including a tribute on opening day is the least we can do for the sacrifices our military has made to protect the freedoms we enjoy.”

The resort has a few surprises in store for some deserving military families this year, and will also be observing a moment of silence for those who have given their lives.
